The collection consists of a scrapbook of newspaper clippings pertaining to John Calvin McCoy’s writing for the Kansas City Journal and various other newspapers. The scrapbook also contains a biography, obituaries, and memorials of McCoy, which were published after his death in 1889. The scrapbook includes an index compiled by the Native Sons and Daughters of Greater Kansas City. Additional materials include correspondence and typescript copies of writing by McCoy and his daughter, Nellie McCoy Harris.

 Digitized Materials

The Barbara McDonnel Collection contains 7x17-inch palladium prints of the Saint Louis area between 1998 to 2004. The black-and-white images depict urban sprawl, the Mississippi River, and St. Louis City buildings. A native of Kirkwood, Missouri, Barbara McDonnell (1947-  ) began her professional photography career in 1994, producing platinum and palladium prints depicting suburban and urban subjects, still lifes, and landscapes. Her artwork has appeared in the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago's Midwest Photographers Project, and the Sheldon Art Galleries.

The Dan McGinnis papers consist of photographs of St. Louis-area Star Trek and Science Fiction Conventions, including Galactic Trek Fest and Epsilon Alpha. Photographs of interest consist of Epsilon Alpha celebrity guests visiting young AIDs patients at Washington University's Department of Pediatrics in support of the convention's fundraising efforts for the Department. Also included is an anniversary program for the USS Hexum's anniversary, a Starfleet International Chapter based in Belleville, Illinois.

The papers of Ann Bryan Mariano McKay, a journalist and Vietnam War correspondent, consist primarily of material relating to her work on the independent newspaper, Overseas Weekly, and include newspapers, newspaper copy, photographs, correspondence, and legal materials regarding a lawsuit over distribution of the newspaper in Vietnam. Other materials in the collection document her work with Vietnamese orphanages, as well as various aspects of both her personal and professional life, including a return trip to Vietnam in 1995 with her adopted daughter.

The majority of the collection contains grant proposals submitted to the Missouri Humanities Council by various organizations in Missouri; the grant proposal files include the proposals, correspondence, and program evaluations. The Missouri Humanities Council was founded in 1971 and is affiliated with the National Endowment for the Humanities. It has offices in Kansas City and St. Louis. The materials in this collection date from 1971 to 2020.
