Some of May's most notable acquisitions occurred in 1911 when he purchased the famous Clothing Store and the William Barr Dry Goods Company and merged them into Famous-Barr. Macy's purchased the May Department Stores Company in 2006.

Also included in this collection is a complete history of the Reifsteck family out of Champaign, IL. Carlene Reifsteck May, Robert’s wife, is thought to have compiled this information before her passing in 2023.
