The papers of Ann Bryan Mariano McKay, a journalist and Vietnam War correspondent, consist primarily of material relating to her work on the independent newspaper, Overseas Weekly, and include newspapers, newspaper copy, photographs, correspondence, and legal materials regarding a lawsuit over distribution of the newspaper in Vietnam. Other materials in the collection document her work with Vietnamese orphanages, as well as various aspects of both her personal and professional life, including a return trip to Vietnam in 1995 with her adopted daughter.

The collection consists of two travel logs kept by T. Thistle McKinney, one of an automobile trip taken in 1928 through the northeastern states, Canada, and the eastern states. The collection contains journals written by a day laborer, who was born in 1876 in Holt's Summit, Callaway County, Missouri, and later resided in Columbia, Missouri. McManaway writes about his friends, neighbors, and people from church, as well as makes notes on the weather, gardening, and daily activities. He lived with his sister Maggie, who is mentioned often. McManaway also intersperses his journal entries with repeatedly copied quotes, aphorisms, and verses, such as "The good fairy can not beat this," "Who runs may read," and "Cleanliness is next to godliness," among many others. It is unclear whether these lines and phrases are penmanship exercises or if they were used as a means of self-improvement.

The collection contains early correspondence between Frank and Ben Mesker from 1882-1886, biographical information, birth and graduation announcements, obituaries, and news clippings regarding members of the Mesker family.
