The collection contains a copy of a diary of a West Virginia man who came to Missouri with his family in the 1870s and settled in Webster and then Pettis Counties. The diary is primarily an account of Culp's travels from West Virginia to Missouri and Kansas, with some record of daily events over a span of five years. Also included are financial accounts, prices for food and supplies, family history, some home remedies, and three hand-drawn maps of a small section of Webster County.

Four ledger sheets of church records dating from 24 May 1891 to 25 November 1894. Begins with the founding of the church in Nelson, Saline County, MO, by order of New Lebanon Presbytery with ruling elders from the Salt Fork Congregation. They organized a Presbyterian church known as the Nelson Congregation with the Reverend T.S. Love as pastor.

The D.B. Axtell and Company Records contain an indexed account ledger for a grocery, general store, and tie-buying firm in southeastern Missouri. Owned by D.B. Axtell and J.P. Gabriel, the business was based in Poplar Bluff and did business in Butler and Stoddard Counties. The ledger includes accounts receivable, lists of payments for ties, and expense accounts.

This collection was compiled for a book entitled "Victory without Violence: the First Ten Years of the St. Louis Committee of Racial Equality (CORE), 1947-1957" by Mary Kimbrough and Margaret Dagen, published by University of Missouri Press in 2000. Includes in the collection is correspondence, oral history tapes, transcripts, and photographs pertaining to CORE's history, political activities, and service to the community. The Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), whose St. Louis chapter was established in 1947, is a pacifist civil rights activist group whose mission is to bring about equality for all people.
