The Draper-McClurg family papers are comprised of correspondence, photographs, Civil War diaries and records, and other personal papers of the families of Philander Draper and Joseph W. McClurg. The papers document the families' involvement in politics, farming and orchards, lead mining and smelting, the Civil War, and frontier life in Missouri, the Dakota Territory, and several western states.

The papers contain 83 letters written by or to Absalom Roby Dyson (1832-1864) and his wife, Louisa Johnson Dyson (1833-1898), between 1850 and 1880 regarding their life in Steelville and Franklin County, Missouri, before the Civil War and Absalom Dyson’s service as a Confederate soldier. Also included are various teaching contracts, business and employment records, and other documents related to Absalom Dyson’s work as a farmer, postmaster, and teacher.

The Eddleman Family Papers includes correspondence between Barbara and Christopher Eddleman and their four sons, William H., Harley, Riley Russell, Rodney J. during World War II. William H. Eddleman died as a prisoner of war in the Philippines in 1942. Included in this collection is correspondence from the War Department about his death benefits to his parents, William H. Breen, Jr. and his wife Enid Breen, and Abie Abraham, after the war. Abraham was with William when he died.

Eldred described the damage to the town of New Madrid and operations against Island No. 10, and reported shortages of rations and an outbreak of smallpox in camp.

The collection also contains magazines and newspaper articles concerning “Fitz’s” cartoons of local, regional, and national politics, including government propaganda for both World Wars. Sixteen one-half hour television documentaries on political affairs, entitled Forty-five Years with Fitzpatrick are included in the collection.
