It also has organizing literature and strike materials, particularly from the most active organizing period in the 1940s, plus correspondence from union officers, activists and rank-and-file members, including labor grievances and organizing reports, newspaper clippings, newsletters, and other union publications.

Most of the papers were collected by Maurice Wheeler, the president of Local 23 (1945-1960), secretary-treasurer of Midwest Council (1958-1968) and vice president of AFTE (1958-1960, 1966-1970).

St. Louis German bakers sent delegates to the first national meeting of bakers in Pittsburgh in February 1886 and received a charters as No. 15. The local supported the eight-hour movement and helped organize the Central Trades and Labor Union. Rivalry with the English-speaking local was resolved in 1906 when both united as Local No. 4. The collection includes executive board membership and social club minutes, financial records, and membership lists. Some volumes are in German.

He was a native of Pennsylvania and freighter who operated from the railhead of the Southwest Branch of the Pacific Railroad in Phelps County before moving to Lake Spring. The collection includes letters from his family in York, Pennsylvania, and from friends and business associates in Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri.

Twenty-two carpenters met on December 8, 1871, to form the St. Louis Cabinet Makers' Protective Union. The following year they affiliated with the International Cabinet Makers' Union of America, becoming Local 12. In 1903 the local became part of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America as Local 1596. The collection includes records of other unions that joined Local 1596. Early volumes are in German.

The collection consists of a thesis by St. Louis University student Myrna Fichtenbaum, entitled "The Funsten Nut Strike May, 1933". The paper discusses the local historical setting, the sequence of strike activities, and the connections with the labor movement and Communist Party.

Included are materials from the Dancing Masters of America and the Dancing Teacher's Association of St. Louis.
