Civil War letters written between Union soldier John B. Ferrill of Sedalia, Missouri, and his wife Martha Jane Sparks. Ferrill served in Company A of the 33rd Missouri Infantry Regiment. He died in 1863 and was buried in Jefferson Barracks. Also includes pension materials for his widow and some transcriptions.

The collection contains journals written by a day laborer, who was born in 1876 in Holt's Summit, Callaway County, Missouri, and later resided in Columbia, Missouri. McManaway writes about his friends, neighbors, and people from church, as well as makes notes on the weather, gardening, and daily activities. He lived with his sister Maggie, who is mentioned often. McManaway also intersperses his journal entries with repeatedly copied quotes, aphorisms, and verses, such as "The good fairy can not beat this," "Who runs may read," and "Cleanliness is next to godliness," among many others. It is unclear whether these lines and phrases are penmanship exercises or if they were used as a means of self-improvement.

The collection contains color slides taken by Burford Leon Royston. Royston worked as a mail carrier in southwest Howard County, Missouri, from 1950-1985. The bulk of the slides were taken by Royston along his routes, and include residents, dwellings, commercial and agricultural structures, natural events, and recreational activities. Also included are slides of the Royston family, photographs and personal papers of the Rawlins, Cox, and Watts families.

This collection contains the papers of Richard “Dick” M. Webster, Missouri State Senator (1962-1990). Items include correspondence, photographs, and material relating to his death on March 4, 1990.

The papers of John H. Harden Jr., a Vietnam War veteran, include two books and a navigator's flight log. The first books detail his experience while serving in Vietnam and the second contains correspondence between Harden and his wife, Carolyn, written during his service.

The papers of a Methodist minister, Hillen Armour Bourland, who lived in Tennessee, Missouri, and Texas. They include a two volume journal which detail circuit rides as a traveling minister, the Civil War, and his personal life. Also included are miscellaneous papers from members of Bourland's family.

The papers of Margaret Wolf Freivogel, a reporter and editor, include correspondence, memos, press releases, material from her time spent with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and material relating to the founding of the St. Louis Beacon. Also included are miscellaneous interviews and photographs.

The papers of John A. Filippello include three digital prints and a sketch by Mort Walker. Two of the images are of the January 5, 1923, train collision in Linn County, Missouri. The final image was taken near the likely birthplace of General John J. Pershing.
