He served in the 4th Missouri Militia Regiment, a unit composed of six-month volunteers under the command of Colonel P. Simpson and later as a sergeant of Co. F of the 50th Missouri Infantry. The collection includes correspondence and military papers concerning duty at the St. Francis Bridge and in Iron and Washington counties in Missouri.

These are letters of a native of California, Moniteau County, Missouri, and member of Co. L,
18th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division, during World War I. The letters include brief comments on the
war in France, 1917-1918, and service with the army of occupation in Germany, 1919. There is also
a letter from Hall's father with news from home.

This is a memoir of a resident of Morgan County, Missouri, concerning his experiences as a
soldier in World War One. Marriott served in the 110th Ammunition Train of the 35th Division and
participated in the Battle of the Argonne in 1918.

This is a record book of a farm club which met at East Prairie School in eastern Morgan
County, Missouri. An affiliate of the Missouri Farmers' Association, the club provided educational
and social programs for the area's residents. It met in conjunction with the East Prairie Literary
Society, 1921-1923. The records include the constitution and bylaws, minutes of meetings, and
membership lists.

R0427 American Red Cross, Morgan County Chapter Records 1932-1937

The Morgan County, Missouri, chapter of the American Red Cross was organized on 20 April
1932 in Versailles. It distributed flour and clothing to needy families, and contributed funds to the
national flood relief effort in January 1937. Chairpersons were Dr. H. N. Lutman and Mrs. A. J.
Gunn.

R0428 Linn Creek Methodist Church, Camden County, Missouri Collection 1964

This is "The History of 90 Years of Linn Creek Methodist Church, from 1874 to 1964,"
compiled by Mrs. F. L. Ridenour. The congregation was formed in 1874 and officially organized in
1882. In 1930 the church moved to higher ground as a result of the construction of Lake of the
Ozarks.

These are two letter press volumes, 1874-1875 and 1881-1882, for "Harris & Janis, Bankers
and Exchange Dealers," of Sainte Genevieve, Missouri. The letters are copies of routine outgoing correspondence, usually to other financial institutions, often written to accompany bank drafts and
other financial instruments. There are alphabetical and chronological lists of addressees for each
volume.

R0435 Felix Janis and Company Business Records 1854-1857

Felix Janis and Henry Janis operated a general store, styled as "Felix Janis & Co.," at Sainte Genevieve, Missouri, 1852-1855. Included here are a list of "metal" hauled for the Madison Iron & Mining Company, 1854-1855, and an inventory of notes and accounts due the firm at the time of Felix Janis's death and the dissolution of the firm in 1855, with payments noted through 1857.

This is "A Brief Resume of the Venezuelan Career of John R. Stubbins," an autobiographical
sketch by a native of Paris, Missouri, and civil engineer who spent fifty-eight years in Venezuela.
He was involved in oil exploration, mining, construction, and public works projects, and headed
OTESCO, an engineering firm, 1930-1970.

This book has two distinct sections. One, probably kept by Felix Janis & Company of Sainte Genevieve, Missouri, is a record of sand hauled to Little Rock landing on the Mississippi River, 1853-1854. The other contains three inventories (1868, 1870, 1873) of the general store run by Janis & Cox at Sainte Genevieve

This daybook was kept at Little Rock landing on the Mississippi River just north of Sainte
Genevieve, Missouri, from 5 January 1854 to 22 March 1856. Listings include the person or firm
and amount charged, commodities brought ashore or shipped, and the name of the steamboat. The
proprietor might have been Francis Claude Rozier. Large quantities of iron and lead were shipped
from the landing.

This is a "List of Hauling of Metal paid by Janis & Valle for a/c Am.[erican] Iron Mountain
Co.," between 22 September 1855 and 30 January 1858. Included are the date, name of hauler,
weight of load, and toll paid, presumably over the "plank road" from Iron Mountain to Ste. Genevieve,
Missouri. The haulers' names have been indexed.

R0440 Jorgen Vilhelm Nielsen Papers 1905-1969

This is a journal, 1905-1930, of a native of Denmark and resident of Chicago, Illinois. The entries
include notes of becoming a naturalized citizen and a description of a trip to California. With
the journal are two letters to John Nielsen at Licking, Missouri, from relatives in Denmark, 1969.
The letters and part of the journal are in Danish.

This is an indexed account ledger of B. F. Kemper, a blacksmith at Fredericktown in Madison
County, Missouri. The volume includes accounts receivable for services rendered, 1885-1888, and

The D.B. Axtell and Company Records contain an indexed account ledger for a grocery, general store, and tie-buying firm in southeastern Missouri. Owned by D.B. Axtell and J.P. Gabriel, the business was based in Poplar Bluff and did business in Butler and Stoddard Counties. The ledger includes accounts receivable, lists of payments for ties, and expense accounts.

These are diaries of Alfred Avery Lamkin, a soldier in the 25th Ohio Infantry and a civilian employee of
the army during the Civil War, who moved to Jasper County, Missouri, in 1866. His diaries cover antebellum
employment in Ohio, Indiana, and Missouri, military service in Virginia, South Carolina, and Kentucky, and
postwar activities in Ohio and Missouri.

This is correspondence of related families of Miller County, Missouri. The principal correspondents are John, Martha, and Matthew Tallman, who wrote to their brother, Jeremiah, while he served in the 1st Missouri Light Artillery, and John D. Brown, of the same regiment, who wrote to his sister, Hannah M. Brown. Topics include military activity in Miller County and southern Missouri, farm life, and family matters.

These are papers of the Kesler and Lytle families of Champaign, Illinois. The collection consists primarily of the Civil War letters of William H. Kesler, written during his service in the 3rd Missouri Cavalry, January 13, 1862 – June 12, 1865. There are also four letters from the papers of Alexander M. Lytle, September 10, 1861 – April 10, 1869. Genealogical information on the Kesler and Lytle families is included.

This is an addition to the business records of the Gideon-Anderson Lumber & Mercantile
Company (see also R290), which operated at Gideon in New Madrid County, Missouri. Most of the
papers concern operations in 1901-1919, but there are also papers of a subsidiary operation, the
Gideon and North Island Railroad Company, 1903-1932, and historical materials on the firm to
1985.

This is an account book for the receipt and disposition of lead (and some copper) shipments at Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, perhaps associated with Ziegler & Company. Records include the date, name of hauler, number of “pigs,” and weight. Contrary accounts give the disposition of metal, including destinations, names of steamboats, and credits to third parties.

The Henry Perrin Mann Papers contain the Civil War diaries of Henry P. Mann, Co. B Cavalry, 36th Illinois Infantry. The company was later assigned to the 15th Illinois Cavalry as Co. K. The diaries cover the Pea Ridge campaign in Missouri and Arkansas, the occupation of Corinth, Mississippi, the battle of Chickamauga, the siege of Chattanooga, and the Atlanta campaign. The Aquilla Standifird Papers contain photocopies of the Civil War diary of a sergeant and, later, lieutenant of Company D, 23rd Iowa Infantry. The diary covers duty in Missouri, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas, July 26, 1862 through circa April 15, 1865. Included are descriptions of service in the Army of Southeastern Missouri, the Vicksburg Campaign, including the battles of Port Gibson, Champion’s Hill, Big Black River Bridge, and Milliken’s Bend, and furlough and medical leave in Iowa.

Risley was active in the National Association of Army Nurses of the Civil War and the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic. These are Civil War letters of Richard Ryall, 6th Missouri Cavalry, from New Iberia, Louisiana.
The letters, written to his brother, Isaac, in Maries County, Missouri, concern war news and
family matters including the death of a brother in Union service. With the letters are typescripts, a
photograph of Ryall in uniform, and a biographical sketch provided by the donor.
