Rolla Manuscript Collections

The Laurentia M. Cosgrove Papers contain the personal papers of Laurentia M. Cosgrove a resident of Saint Louis, Missouri. The papers include correspondence, writings, and
World War II ration books.

The Anna Lee Grossman Papers contain correspondence written to Anna Grossman in response to letters she sent to politicians and world leaders regarding current events. The letters date from 1959 to 1989.

The Lindsay Bagnall Collection contains materials collected by Lindsay Bagnall. The materials include the family Bible with genealogical information of the Brown and Burton
families of Kansas and Missouri, copies of The Good Life, and a photograph of women in a garment factory.

The Norbert Shacklette Collection contains railroad financial records and correspondence, transportation publications and related labor union communications from South-Central Missouri, and Missouri Democratic Party event programs and memorabilia.

The James Posey Woodside Papers contain the 1868 diary of James Woodside. The diary includes almost daily short entries.

The Rose Dorf Wiggins Smith Papers contain the diaries and personal papers of Rose Smith, nee Dorf. The diaries contain almost daily entries of her life in Crawford County,
Missouri including her work for local newspapers.

The Livingston and Traugott Families Papers contains personal correspondence and papers of the Traugott and Livingston families from Benton and Miller counties in Missouri, with the bulk revolving around the life of the Traugott family during Lieutenant Colonel Edgar Henry Traugott’s career in the United States Army in the mid-twentieth century.

The Penninger and Bolin Families Collection contains genealogical research conducted and collected by Linda Marie Penninger Henry on the Penninger and Bolin families, of whose descendants many settled in Christian, Dent, Greene, Howell, Jackson, Phelps, Shannon, and Stone counties in Missouri.

The Ransom B. Lynch Journals consist of 42 journals written by Dr. Ransom B. Lynch of Texas County, Missouri, from 1875 to 1934. The journals describe Dr. Lynch’s daily activities, finances, medical practice, and weather conditions.

The Lynn Morrow Map Collection contains copies and original Missouri related maps collected by Lynn Morrow. The collection includes atlases, waterway maps, road and train maps, tourist and highway maps, and geological maps.

The Morrow and Skaggs Families Papers contain materials related to the Morrow and Skaggs families predominantly of Miller County, Missouri. The bulk of the materials is an expansion of Joe Morrow’s genealogical compilation, Ancestors and Descendents [sic] of George & Ethel (Skaggs) Morrow, privately printed, June 1980. The materials include correspondence, family trees, photographs, certificates, and personal documents.

The Morrow and Johnson Families Papers contain the personal and family papers for Jennings and Lois Johnson Morrow, their parents, and their siblings. The papers include family photographs, travel diaries, newspaper clippings, World War II training books and photographs, academic papers, correspondence, and architectural drawings.

The Passerby Newsletter Collection contains a copied mimeograph monthly family newsletter that circulated among the descendants of John H. Pummill and Lydia Eliza (Matthews) Pummill. In circulation from 1932 to 1939 the newsletter was edited by James E. Pummill, Superintendent of Schools in Eureka, Missouri, it was based on letters received from family members. The newsletters focus on the Pummill family of Shannon County, Missouri and life during the Great Depression.

The Missouri Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, Ozark Patriots Chapter Records contain yearbooks for the chapter located in Rolla, Missouri. The yearbooks contain meeting minutes, membership information, photographs, chapter news and events, and newspaper articles from each year’s events.

The Durand-Thomure Family Papers contain correspondence, financial records, property deeds, and legal documents related to the Durand and Thomure families of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. The collection also includes similar documents concerning the LaRose family, as well as Ste. Genevieve land records and French songs.

The James Memorial Library Collection contains photographs, genealogical records, maps, organizational records, publications, papers, and scrapbooks collected by James Memorial Public Library in St. James, Phelps County, Missouri.

The John Carter Papers contain records and artifacts donated by John Carter, a long-time mining properties manager for the Doe Run Company, pertaining to lead mining conducted primarily by the St. Joe Mineral Corporation and the Doe Run Company in Iron, Jefferson, Madison, St. Francois, and Washington counties in Missouri.

The Harlan Cecil Gregory Papers contain photographs and genealogical histories of the Gregory and Skyles family who settled in Howell and Texas Counties in Missouri.

The Barbara Smith Pugh Collection contains photographs and papers created and collected by Barbara Smith Pugh during her life. Photos depict family members from both the Smith and Pugh families. Barbara was an avid genealogist and photographer from Rolla, Missouri.

The John F. Bradbury, Jr. Postcard Collection contains postcards collected by Bradbury, containing images from the Ozarks and Southern Missouri. The postcards consist of real photograph, commercially printed, and illustrated postcards. The images mainly feature Missouri towns, railroads, Route 66, resorts, and rivers.
