The Barnes Papers consist of the diaries, correspondence, photographs, financial records, and miscellaneous material of a Marston, Missouri, businessman and University of Missouri graduate. The Barnes family owned and operated a series of successful business enterprises in southeastern Missouri during the early twentieth century.

Memorial of the Board of Curators of the Missouri State University to the Legislature, 26 January 1869, on the establishment of an agricultural and mechanical college as a part of the University rather than as a separate institution.

The collection contains pamphlets, brochures, and letters advertising organs, sewing machines, pills, electric belts, and various items of medical quackery. Items are primarily from the Pulvermacher Galvanic Company, the German Electric Agency, World’s Dispensary Medical Association, and the Omaha Medical and Surgical Institute. Also included are probate and business documents, genealogical material, farm records, a Mississippi River hydrography survey, medicinal treatments, a day book, and scrapbooks.

The papers of Elmer Ellis contain papers from Ellis' time as a member of the Department of History. Materials pertain to departmental and University matters, accreditation of high schools and colleges, the publication of his books, HENRY MOORE TELLER: DEFENDER OF THE WEST and MR. DOOLEY'S AMERICA: A LIFE OF FINLEY PETER DUNNE, and activities of professional organizations.

The papers of Waller M. Pritchett contain family and personal correspondence, bills and receipts, and letters of sympathy on his wife's death.

The papers of Wilhelm and Augustus Seyffert contain a copy book of poems in German (vol. 1), a history of Missouri State Militia, Company E, 13th Cavalry, and an account book of Augustus Seyffert, 1869-1889 (vol. 2).

The papers contain documents pertaining to Dr. John Sappington and his family. These papers deal with the financial accounts of Dr. Sappington, financial business for W.B. Sappington, and a variety of receipts and business papers. Another portion of this collection contains correspondence and essays written by W.B. Sappington. There is also a small collection of newspaper clippings.

The records of the University of Missouri Committee on Accredited Schools and Colleges contain correspondence and annual reports pertaining to the accreditation of non-public secondary schools in Missouri.

The papers of the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools contain material and correspondence pertaining to the accreditation of colleges and secondary schools in Missouri and associated states, educational standards, new programs in education, and various educational problems throughout the region.

Cady's correspondence with doctors, legislators, and businessmen in Missouri, and state health officers of other states; copies of premarital examination and prenatal blood test bills; and various promotional publications and magazine and newspaper clippings regarding premarital examination and prenatal blood test bills.

The papers of John Machir, a businessman and landowner who lived in St. Louis and Columbia, Missouri, consist of the legal papers of his father, Henry Machir, business correspondence, bills of sale for enslaved people, deeds, tax bills, surveys, personal correspondence, and account books.

The papers of Holt County Missouri contain four oaths of loyalty to the United States and the State of Missouri, by Daniel Ganghan, George P. Hedrick, and Phillip W. Shambaugh, in the presence of the Holt County clerk in 1862. Also included is a ferryman's bond giving Olney Graham authority to keep a ferry across the Missouri River at Boswell, NE, 1893.

The collection contains a history of Jefferson, Ste. Genevieve, Perry, and Cape Girardeau Counties, MO, describing the geology, natural resources, and early settlers.

The collection contains a paper presented to the Seventh Missouri Conference on History, held at the University of Missouri-Columbia. The paper discusses how the history of an area influences the actions of political leaders.

The collection contains a history describing the location, businesses, and early settlers of Persia, MO. The collection also includes a copy of the FRANKLIN INTELLIGENCER, April 1, 1820, photographs, and maps of the town site.
