The records of Elmwood Seminary contain account and record books, papers, and correspondence of a Presbyterian girl's school in Farmington, Missouri.

The records of the Pritchett School Institute contain yearly reports, correspondence concerning scholarships and hiring of teachers, expense accounts, and material relative to the Morrison Observatory.

The papers contain announcements, catalogues, and programs of annual examinations and commencement.

The records contain a fragment of a record book of a commission company dealing in cotton, hides, furs, tobacco, wheat, hemp, castor beans, and sorghum molasses. Lists cost of freight, marine insurance, government tax, commissions on sale, and record of sale.

A record of the boat, master, destination and cargo of vessels leaving the port of Cambridge on the Missouri River. Most of the cargo was tobacco, hemp, potatoes, hides, and wheat. The book was used as a scrapbook by John B. Land and was recovered by removing most of the clippings. See also the Land, John Braxton (1860-1949), Papers, 1918-1939, (C0359).

Two medical papers written by a doctor from New London, MO: One, "A Possible Factor of Degeneracy," was published in the NEW YORK MEDICAL JOURNAL, July 20, 1918; the other, "A Pope as Physician," was printed in the MEDICAL JOURNAL AND RECORD, December 16, 1925.

Group depositions on behalf of the plaintiff, Gentry, in a legal case involving floods on the Grand River. Ira B. Hyde was attorney for the plaintiff. The defendant was the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad Company, represented by Orton & Orton.

Paper about circuit court judges from the time courts were established in 1815, read before Cape Girardeau Historical Society.

Statement of the facts in a case against T.J. Pendergast involving income tax evasion, 1939. Milligan was an attorney for the prosecution.

Political and personal papers of a Democratic U.S. congressman from Missouri, 1893-1895, and 1897-1921, and his son, a Democratic U.S. senator from Missouri, 1933-1945. The papers of Thomas Lilbourne Anderson, lawyer, politician, and U.S. Congressman who practiced law in St. Charles and Palmyra, Missouri contain an autobiography and three letters written to Anderson in the 1860s, one describing the Battle of Springfield in 1863.

Letter from James C. Hamilton of Fulton, MO, to his brother William in Washington City, IA. He talks of the weather, crops, the prosperity of the country, a revival meeting and their need of a preacher. Brief biography of Ben Butler, legislator, governor, Union general, senator, and presidential candidate, who ran as a Republican, Democrat, and Greenback.

The autobiography, "The Story of My Life" by Margaret Stout Davis, covers her life from 1870 to 1952. She recounts her fathers' and husbands' business ventures.

The sketch contains a description of pioneer life in the community of Marion, Indiana, in 1846 and later.

Biography of William H. Pyle (1875-1946), educator and psychologist, follows his life from 1900 until his death. He taught Educational Psychology at the University of Missouri and at Wayne University, Detroit, MI, and became dean of the graduate school at Wayne University.

The sketches contain the account, "How Mother Got Her Forty Acres," dictated by Anna Marti, of her mother's trip in 1845 from Switzerland to the United States and how she acquired forty acres of land near Kochille, Michigan. Also includes a short typewritten sketch of Anna M. Marti by Mrs. E.L. Gage.

The collection contains a biographical sketch of Thorstein Veblen, but little concerning his time at the University of Missouri. Prepared for MISSOURI ALUMNUS but not used.

The collection contains the reminiscences of Kate Crutcher Smith about a ledger of people enslaved by the family of General Thomas Adams Smith.

The papers contain Breckenridge’s petition for a pension in 1894; "The Breckenridge Memoirs,” consisting of a typed account of Breckenridge’s expeditions with John C. Fremont, and a term paper by University of Missouri history student, John Mitchell, in 1950, where he argues the importance of the Breckenridge manuscript.

The collection contains a record of the death of Alf Bowlin, a hunted Confederate soldier, near Forsyth, Missouri, in 1862, as told and recorded by a Union soldier in 1885.
