Rolla Manuscript Collections

This is the record book of the Modern Woodmen of America camp at Ozark in Christian County, Missouri. The volume includes minutes of meetings, 1913-1919, and a record of benefit certificates issued to members.

This is a letter dated June 16, 1925 from C.M. Buford at Ellington in Reynolds County, Missouri, to James B. Armstrong at Mexico, Missouri. The letter concerns possible land transctions in Reynolds County.

This is a certificate dated September 4, 1906 for one unit interest in the lands and towns located in Montgomery County, Texas, on sale by the Frisco-Santa Fe Land and Development Company. The company was based at Springfield in Greene County, Missouri. The president was Maurice H. Meyers.

This is the district clerk's record book of Christian County School District No. 10 (originally District No. 1). The record book contains minutes of annual and speical meetings of the district and meetings of the school board, circa June 1896 - October 5, 1920, annual enumerations 1900-1918, and records of warrants issued.

This collection contains an exchange of letters between Herman W. Huber, a candidate for state representative from Perry County, Missouri, and Walter H. Toberman, Missouri Secretary of State in Jefferson City. The letters express hopes of Democratic victories in the fall elections.

These are the minute books and a cash received ledger of the Finley Building and Loan Association at Ozark in Christian County, Missouri. The records begin with the organization of the association in 1899 and continue through its entry into receivership in 1916 and dissolution in 1920.

This collection includes a certificate of souvenir stock in Ripley County Centennial, Inc., a centennial booklet, a promotional brochure, and two souvenir pinback buttons for the Ripley County Centennial celebration at Doniphan, Missouri, on August 17-22, 1959.

The James Andrew Spilman Photograph Collection contains images of James Spilman, his wife Mae, scenes from Rolla, Missouri, Phelps County, and Jerome, Missouri. Also included are views of the Spilman hardware pavilion at the Phelps County fairgrounds and a parade in Rolla, Missouri during a campaign stop by William Jennings Bryan in 1900.

This is an undated postcard view showing Esther Maggi and a group of young women in a drawing class in front of the Phelps County Courthouse in Rolla, Missouri. Also included are copies of the funeral card and obituary of Maggi, who died of burns suffered at St. Louis in 1912

These are black and white photographs, color slides, plans, and detail drawings of historic structures in the northern Ozarks of Missouri. Several counties are represented, but especially Crawford, Franklin, Gasconade, Maries, Phelps, Osage, and Washington. The primary topics are vernacular architecture, log structures, churches, and cemeteries.

This is a certificate for 150 shares of stock in the Zeta Land and Mining company of Independence in Jackson County, Missouri. The certificate was issued to John P. Jackson, who was the president of the firm. The company owned mineral land and mines in Newton County, Missouri.

This is an autograph letter dated September 10, 1890 from C. A. Ragland at Stockton in Cedar County, Missouri to T. L. Smith at Whitehall, Illinois. The letter concerns taxes on the estate of James W. Gregory.

This is a program for a performance by "Devi Dja and her Bali-Java Dancers, with Native Gamelan Orchestra," on Tuesday evening, March 30, 1943 in the Senior High School auditorium at Springfield in Greene County, Missouri. The Springfield Community Teachers Association sponsored the appearance.

This single-sheet, four-panel pamphlet is the course of study and rules governing course for West Plains High School in Howell County, Missouri. Although undate, a footnote includes the years 1911 to 1913. William Melcher served as superintendent of the school.

This is a form letter dated April 4, 1919 and sent to businesses in the lumber trade by the Wright-Dalton-Bell-Anchor Store Company at Poplar Bluff in Butler County, Missouri. The letter solicits business for Nicholson and Simonds brand files and saws.

These are three annual program schedule and membership booklets for the Ladies Saturday Club at Aurora in Lawrence County, Missouri. The booklets are for 1911 to 1914. They include the names of officers, chairwomen, and members.

This is a program for the 71st meeting of the 49th District Association of Freemasons, hosted by Mystic Tie Lodge No. 221 at Oak Ridge in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, on Wednesday evening, May 28, 1952. W. Glenn McCain presented the lecture and charge to the meeting.

This is a program booklet for the business and ceremonial session of Abou Ben Adhem Temple, a chapter of the Ancient Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine "Shriners" held at Springfield in Greene County, Missouri, on October 27, 1910.

This collection consists of six stock certificates and a letter to stockholders for the Shawnee Copper Company at Eminence in Shannon County, Missourui. Officers of the firm included A. Wilbur, Ralph E. Carr, and W. A. Despain.

This is certificate No. 520 for 32 shares of stock in the Osceola Lead and Zinc Mining Company at Webb City in Jasper County, Missouri. The certificate was issued on April 5, 1905 to Dr. W. H. Hawley, and was signed by President T. F. Coyne and Secretary S. R. Snook.

These are records of the Roy Nelson Canning Company, a large tomato-canning concern especially active in Stone, Taney, and Douglas Counties in Missouri. The collection consists of land records, deeds, financial statements, insurance papers, and records for individual factories, mostly for operations in Stone County, Missouri.

This is material concerning the Consolidated Copper Creek Mining Company, which owned mines in Arizona and Colorado but had corporate offices in Kansas City, Missouri. Included are promotional materials and receipts for shares of stock from the company's financial agent, Isaac W. Dumm.

These are programs for the annual Boy Scout Circus at Joplin in Jasper County, Missouri. Sponsored by the MoKan Area Council, hundreds of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Explorers, and their leaders participated in the events, which featured demonstrations of scouting skills, contests, and entertainment. Programs are available for 1937 to 1940 and 1951.

This is a directory for 1916 of the First Baptist Church at Bonne Terre in St. Francois County, Missouri. W.W. Pierce was the pastor and William Frey was the chairman of the deacons. Includeds illustrations, lists of officers and activeties, statement of beliefs and church covenant, and a church roll of over 300 members with addresses.

This is the yearbook and directory for 1929 for the Grant Avenue Baptist Church at Springfield in Greene County, Missouri. Included are photographs of the pastor and the church building, lists of officers, the church covenant, and a membership roll. Thomas Houston Wiles served as pastor of the congregation.

These are the published minutes and proceedings of the 57th annual session of the Greene County Baptist Association, held with the Ash Grove Church at Ash Grove in Greenen County, Missouri, on September 3-5, 1929. C.K. Martin served as moderator of the session.

These are program booklets for the Association of Young Republicans of Missouri's annual Lincoln Day Banquets, held on February 12, 1926 and February 12, 1935 at the Shrine Mosque in Springfield in Greene County, Missouri. Governor Sam A. Baker and Senator George H. Williams were featured speakers in 1926, while United States Representative Hamilton E. Fish and Dewey J. Short headlined the event in 1935.

These are five black-and-white photographic prints concerning the the 14th Observation Squadron (later the 14th Liaison Squadron) and its training base at Rolla in Phelps County, Missouri. There are two aerial views of the camp and training field, a view of the main building, and two views of a formal dance held at the Rolla USO in August 1942.

This is a program for a production of William Shakespeare's 'The Taming of the Shrew' at the Joplin Theatre in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri, on Friday evening February 8, 1929. The live performance was presented in modern dress. The porgram includes members of the cast, a list of the scenes, and advertisments for local buisnesses.

This is a daybook from the mercantile operation of A. Buford & Son at Ellington in Reynolds County, Missouri. Entries begin on April 20, 1908 and continue through January 29, 1909. The entries show purchases of groceries, hardware, and sundries, and payments on account.

This is a bound volume containing information about land parcels in Madison, Reynolds, Wayne, Iron, and Sainte Genevieve Counties in Missouri, and miscellaneous clippings on such subjects as horticulture and cholera. The item has been attributed to Milton P. Cayce because his name occurs most often therein.

This is an annual program booklet for a woman's garden club at Cassville in Barry County, Missouri. Covering the calendar year 1947, it includes meeting schedules and topics, lists of state and local officers, a roster of members with local telephone numbers, and a list of past presidents.

This is a certificate for one share of stock in the Tri-State Exploration Company, which had offices at Springfield in Greene County, Missouri, and mineral leases on land in Lawrence County, Missouri. The certificate was issued to L.M. Miller on November 4, 1927.

This is a certificate for four shares of stock in the Richwoods Mining Company, whose chief office was at Richwoods in Washington County, Missouri. The certificate was issued to Harley Ballard on August 30, 1911.

This is a certificate for 300 shares of stock in the Plattin Valley Mining Company of St. Louis, Missouri. The certificate was issued to Charles Brockhoff on May 23, 1907 and was signed by Dr. Henry F. Bartens, president, and Alexander J. Bartens, secretary.

This is a bulletin for the services on Sunday, January 11, 1914, at the First Congregational Church at Aurora in Lawrence County, Missouri. The pastor was the Reverend John Allen Schmink. The bulletin includes an announcement of forthcoming services by the Reverend John B. Gonzales of St. Louis.

This is the annual program booklet for the Monday Art Club, a woman's study club at Poplar Bluff in Butler County, Missouri. The booklet is undated, but 1911 has been written in what appears to be period ink and handwriting on the cover. The president of the club was Mrs. W.M. Barron and the secretary-treasurer was Mrs. E. Bacon.

This is a program booklet for boat races presented by the Pro-Riders Boat Racing Club of Springfield, Missouri, at Kimberling City on Table Rock Lake in Stone County, Missouri, on September 24, 1961. Included are a schedule of events, contestants for Miss Table Rock Lake, and advertisements for area businesses.

This is a small promotional pamphlet for Camp Blackstone, a resort on the James River near Galena in Stone County, Missouri. The proprietor was Dr. G. H. Black.

These are articles of association and order of incorporation for the Dexter Cemetery Assocation, a benevolent association formed to establish and maintain a public cemetery at Dexter in Stoddard County, Missouri. George N. Boughton was president.

This collection contains photocopies of a booklet published by the First Methodist Church of Dexter in Stoddard County, Missouri, for the consecration of its new church building on April 12, 1964. Included are an order of worship, a history of the congregation, a membership roll, and a list of church officials from 1877-1964. Dr. Arthur C. Fulbright was pastor of the congregation.

These are a minute book of the Knights of Pythias Lodge at Osceola in St. Clair County, Missouri, and portraits of the members in 1910. The minutes begin with the organizational meeting on January 20, 1909 and continue through March 9, 1914. The volume includes amended by-laws, membership roster, rolls of officers, and rules for the club room.

This collection contains photocopies of programs for the 20th Anniversary of the dedication on May 25, 1941 and parsonage dedication on October 6, 1963 for the First Baptist Church at Dexter in Stoddard County, Missouri.

This is a "History of the Christian Church, Dexter, Missouri," compiled in 1946. Dexter is in Stoddard County, Missouri. The pastor was Walter A. Smith.

This is "Crossing at Crowley's Ridge," a booklet published by the Missouri State Highway Commission on June 24, 1962 for the dedication of improved U.S. Highway 60 and Missouri Highway 25 at Dexter in Stoddard County, Missouri. Commission Chairman Fred L. Henley, Governor John M. Dalton, and U.S. Senator Edward V. Long attended the dedication ceremony.

The O'Reilly General Hospital Records contain menu and roster booklets from Christmas 1942 and 1945 for the United States Army's O'Reilly General Hospital at Springfield, Missouri. Included are the menu for Christmas dinner and an every-name roster of personnel.

This is a letter dated October 21, 1847 from John Ziegler (for S. Ziegler) at Sainte Genevieve in Sainte Genevieve County, Missouri, to James Harrison at Iron Mountain in St. Francois County, Missouri. It concerns shipments of iron ore and "pigs" from Iron Mountain to steamboats on the Mississippi river at Sainte Genevieve.

This is a program of exercises of the First Annual Exhibition of Cape Girardeau Academy, held at Cape Girardeau in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, on June 28, 1855. Included were elocutions and declamations by students, with musical interludes.

This is a certificate for 200 shares in the Jasper County Tanning Company, which had offices at Carthage in Jasper County, Missouri, and property at Carthage and at Pittsburg in Crawford County, Kansas. The certificate was issued to A. J. Porter on October 1, 1924 and signed by President P.C. Gruver and secretary Lester E. Forbes.

This is "Douglas County in the Heart of the Ozarks," a promotional booklet prepared by the Douglas County Booster Club at Ava in Douglas County, Missouri.

This is a promotional pamphlet issued by the Linn Creek Community Club to encourage economic developoment in Linn Creek and Camden County, Missouri.

The collection consists of a booklet and a pamphlet promoting Lebanon in Laclede County, Missouri, as a location for industry, agriculture, and residence.

These are two promotional pamphlets for El Dorado Springs in Cedar County, Missouri. Included are descriptions of the town and its medicinal springs, with chemical analyses of the waters. The pamphlets are undated, but appear to be from the 1920s.

This is the issue for August 1909 of 'The Ginseng Garden', edited by Charles E. McDowell at Joplin in Jasper County, Missouri. This quarterly publication promoted the cultivation and marketing of ginseng, a medicinal root.

This is 'Joplin, Missouri: A city of Diversified Opportunites', an illustrated promotional booklet issued by the Joplin Chamber of Commerce at Joplin in Jasper County Missouri. Although undated, the text and photographs suggest a printing in the 1920s.

This is a small booklet for 1953 Queen City Chapter No. 226 of the Order of the Eastern Star at Springfield in Greene County, Missouri. Included are lists of officers and escorts, along with the chapter's symbol, colors, flower, motto, and songs. Doris Whitehead was the Worthy Matron for 1953.

This is a souvenir booklet for Thompson Grove School southeast of Seneca in Newton County, Missouri. It was presented by teacher Rosa Kellhofer to her pupils at the close of the school year in 1913.

This is Volume 2, Number 1 (January 1965) of "Pow Wow", the newsletter of the Ozarks Empire Area council of the Boy Scouts of America. Headquartered at Springfield in Greene County, Missouri, the Council served 225 units in six districts in southwestern and south central Missouri.

These are the minutes of the Sixty-third annual session of the Missouri Conference of the Methodist Protestant Church held at Blades Chapel, in Greene County, Missouri on August 7-10, 1929. E.R. Stribling served as president and J.F. Howe served as secretary of the session. The booklet inlcudes official minutes of session, roster of pastors and delegates, reports of standing committees, and statistacal table that lists all the member congretations with membership and financial data.

This collections contains "Snap Shots in South Missouri," a promotional booklet to encourage land sales along the Kansas City, Fort Scott, and Memphis, and Kansas City, Clinton and Springfield Railroads in Missouri. The area is presented as ideal for fruit-culture and raising livestock. Booklet includes vies along the railroad lines in Missouri and Arkansas.

This is a program booklet for "Joyland" an evening of musical and dance entertainment presented as a fundraiser for the Springfield Kiwanis Club's Crippled Children's Fund under the direction of the Physical Education Department of Southwest Missouri State Teachers College. The event was held in the Shrine Mosque at Springfield in Greene County, Missouri, on December 16, 1936.

This is a program booklet for a banquet honoring the Home Economics Council and Chorus of Greene County, Missouri, sponsored by the chain store managers of Springfield, Missouri and held on September 23, 1948 at the Kentwood Arms Hotel. Gaylord L. Durkee was the banquet chairman and Mrs. Felix Russell was chairwoman of the Home Economics Council.

The is a special offer form letter, dated May 8, 1911, from the Brinkerhoff-Farris Trust & Savings Company at Clinton in Henry County, Missouri, to their customers. Signed by secretary and treasuer H.P. Faris, the letter offered investments in deed of trust loans at a favorable rate of interest.

These are yearbooks and other publications related to the Rachel Donelson Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution at Springfield in Greene County, Missouri. The yearbooks include lists of national, state, and local officers, schedules of programs, and membership rosters.

These are two letters, dated April 5 and June 2, 1937, from Evans W. Buskett, a chemist and metallurgist in Joplin, Jasper county, Missouri, to A. F. Wilson, president of Stillfilm, Inc., in Los Angeles, California. The letters deal with the selection of images for education filmstrips.

These are five copies of 'The Oak Tree', the weekly newsletter of the Civilian Conservation Corp's company 1732 at Blooming Rose in Phelps County, Missouri. The issues are dated between October 17 and December 12, 1935.

The Cullimore Family Papers contain the personal and family papers for Donald B. and Lee M. Cullimore and their father Donald G. Cullimore. The papers include personal correspondence, diaries, articles, family research and genealogy, photographs, and local history research. a larger portion of the collection is dedicated to genealogical materials for the family of Lee Cullimore and his wife, Marcia Craddock Cullimore’s family.

Included are photographs of the building and its major rooms, portraits fo the staff, and a program of events. The Reverend George S. Ellyson served as pastor.

This is a letter dated March 27, 1933, from Deleta Condray of Bangert in Dent County, Missouri, to the directors of the Adams School District in Phelps County, Missouri. In the letter Condray applies for a teaching job at the school.

These are two booklets concerning the Haden Family, a musical group that performed during this period on radio station KWTO at Springfield in Greene County, Missouri. The booklets were distributed to fans of the group.
