The Grant-Davis Lumber Company Records are business records of a lumber company based in Cabool, Missouri, which operated in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas. The collection includes ledgers, cash books, trial balances, inventories, and correspondence with the St. Louis and San Francisco ("Frisco") Railroad Company regarding freight claims. Russelle Grant Simonsen, daughter of Paul S. Grant, the last president of the firm, donated the records of the Grant-Davis Lumber Company. Mrs. Simonsen also provided background information on the company and the individuals who operated it.

The collection is a result of a thirty-year avocational interest in the history of the Old Lead Belt by Commodore Perry Hill, Jr.

The Picket Post No. 215 chapter was organized in 1884, as the Bonne Terre Post. It was moved to Farmington, Missouri in 1887, and renamed Picket Post No. 215.

The Frank R. Schoppenhorst Papers contain a microfilm copy of a memoir of military service during World War I by a native of Marthasville, Warren County, Missouri. Schoppenhorst served in the 354th Infantry Regiment of the 89th Division. He saw action in the St. Mihiel and Muese-Argonne offensives. He was wounded during the fighting in the Argonne Forest.

The Pilot Knob, Missouri Civil War Telegram Collection contains photocopies of telegrams sent and received by Colonel John B. Gray, commander of the Union post at Pilot Knob, Iron County, Missouri. The dispatches include communications with district headquarters at Saint Louis, and with detachments throughout southeastern Missouri, especially those at Fredericktown, Patterson, Van Buren, and Barnesville. The telegrams cover the period from November 1862 to April 1863.

The Robert C. Arnett Papers contains photocopies and transcripts of a memoir of the engagement at Fredericktown, Madison County, Missouri on October 21, 1861, by a native of the town on whose farm the fighting occurred. Arnett claimed to have reported on Federal troop strength to General M. Jeff Thompson before the battle.

Taylor Medical Records contain records of medical examinations of Union Civil War veterans from Ozark, Taney, Howell, and Douglas counties in Missouri, and Baxter and Boone counties in Arkansas. Performed for the United States Bureau of Pensions by Dr. George W. Ebrite and Dr. George W. Taylor, each ‘surgeon certificate’ includes a medical history of the claimant, descriptions of wounds and disabilities, and recommendations for pension payments.

He was a native of Pennsylvania and freighter who operated from the railhead of the Southwest Branch of the Pacific Railroad in Phelps County before moving to Lake Spring. The collection includes letters from his family in York, Pennsylvania, and from friends and business associates in Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri.

The Cyrus A. Mead Papers contain photocopies of a letter written by Cyrus A. Mead during the Civil War to his sister in Eaton, Ohio. Serving with the 42nd Ohio Infantry in Camp Chase, Ohio, Mead noted the sickness in the regiment and remarked on the regimental officers, including Colonel James A. Garfield, who later became President of the United States.

Contextual evidence indicates that the author might have been Archy Thomas, a soldier in the Missouri State Guard from Carollton, Missouri.

The B.F. Carney Papers contain one of a thousand one dollar promissory notes issued by B.F. Carney at Crane, Missouri. Carney issued the notes to prove a Depression-era theory of money. Also included, are a photocopy of a letter written by Carney's son in 1969 explaining the history of the notes and an audio cassette with transcript containing Ben Carney Jr.'s explanation of the B.F. Carney dollar.

The Charley Hershey Papers contain microfilm copies of diaries written by a young itinerant peddler from Jasper County, Missouri. Charley Hershey and his brothers, Austin and Sam, canvassed the mining towns of Jasper County and in Kansas. They made a journey down the White River in Arkansas in 1884, went to California, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado in 1886. The collection also includes fragments of a short story, “Goldeye’s Trip to the Hills.”

The Charles E. Kiefner Papers contain the papers of a U.S. Representative from Perryville, Missouri. The typescript includes a subject-name index to the journals.
