Papers consist of newspaper clippings, research data, reports, and correspondence documenting a research project that analyzed U.S. newspaper coverage of several women's issues and events of the 1970s and published its findings in a 1983 report. Virginia R. Allen was director, Catherine East was issues specialist, and Dorothy Misener Jurney was media specialist on the project. The project led to the establishment of an independent newspaper think tank and research organization of the same name at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism.

Records of an organization that had the purpose of educating the public on prison conditions and promoting programs of education and rehabilitation in cooperation with the Missouri State Division of Corrections. MCCJ was a cooperative effort of many organizations and individuals but, Dr. J. Noel Heermance, professor of English at Lincoln University, Jefferson City, was the director and driving force.

Joan M. Krauskopf was a law professor at the University of Missouri . Her papers relate to the women's movement, the campaigns for the Equal Rights Amendment in Missouri and in the U.S. Congress, and to her specialty of family law. The Mollie and Alice Garr Papers consist mostly of letters written from 1875 to 1896 by a mother and daughter from Lafayette County, Missouri, to relatives in Virginia, primarily to William Benjamin Plunkett of Greene County. Also included are photocopies of various explanatory materials, such as obituaries, death certificates, printed articles, and genealogical lists of the Garr and Slusher families, compiled by the donor of the papers in 1991.

C3988 Francis M. Gordon Civil War Diaries 1864-1867

Two diaries of Sgt. Francis M. Gordon, who served with Company D, 2nd Colorado Cavalry, describe escort duty and encounters with bushwhackers in Jackson and Cass Counties, Missouri, and Sterling Price’s raid in September and October 1864. Miscellaneous notes and account figures are included in the back of both volumes.

The papers consist of correspondence, photographs, pamphlets, certificates, and military insignias relating to Tech. Sgt. John J. Mixer's military service in World War II, his death in Germany and burial in the Netherlands in 1945, and the subsequent adoption of his grave by a Dutch family.

The church records include minutes of administrative boards and committees, ministers' and administrators' papers, papers of the Christian Student Congregation, publications, the Bear Creek Church record book, the record book of the Construction Committee, and papers of several affiliated clubs and committees. Documents especially cover the period from the 1920s to 1964. In addition, this collection contains drafts and notes by Mary K. Dains for her history of the First Christian Church published in 1996. Her research includes interview recordings with church members.

The papers of a University of Missouri English professor, well-known for his lectures on the pronunciation of “Missouri” and other dialect research, contain extensive professional correspondence, research data, articles, presentations, teaching materials, and materials related to his work with professional organizations.  Audio cassettes include interviews with Germans in Missouri and with decorated U.S. Army Special Forces veteran Byrl D. Taylor, Missouri folk musicians, and examples of English language dialects.

The papers contain correspondence, scrapbooks, photographs, newspapers, yearbooks, and miscellaneous material of Orestes Mitchell Jr., an attorney and member of the University of Missouri Board of Curators; and his father, Orestes Mitchell Sr., also a lawyer. Both men were active in the St. Joseph, Missouri Rotary Club and Freemasons.

Papers relating to a Kansas City area woman, who was a lifelong employee of Sears Department Store and enjoyed travelling across North America and Europe. The collection consists mainly of photographs and slides from her travels, as well as travel notes, postcards, and brochures. The collection also contains materials concerning the family burial plots at the Huntsville Cemetery in Huntsville, Missouri and materials from her retirement party.

The papers of Huynh Quang Nhuong, a Vietnamese author who lived in Columbia, Missouri, consist mainly of Huynh's writings and include drafts of plays, novels, short stories, poetry, and screenplays. The collection also includes photographs, newspaper clippings, book reviews, and correspondence with publishers, as well as fan letters from children regarding his book, The Land I Lost.

The papers contain the World War II correspondence of Wallace “Wally” Daetwyler of Lamar, Missouri, to his wife, Ruth A. Daetwyler.  Wallace Daetwyler served as an information technician with the U.S. Army Medical Corps in the European Theatre from 1943 to1945.
