A letter from Jane Addams to Miss Brand, in which Addams declines an invitation from Brand to give a speech in St. Louis due to her poor health. Addams was a nationally renowned social reformer, best known for establishing Hull Huss, a settlement home in Chicago, Illinois. The letter, which dates between 1930 and 1935, was most likely written by her friend and sometime secretary, Louise de Koven Bowen.
