 Finding Aid

The diaries describe classes John Roberts taught as a teacher, the students, the weather and health of family members. The diaries also describe his other occupations as farmer, itinerant bookseller, a reporter for local newspapers and a brief view as a partisan Democrat. There is an introduction written in 1988 by J. Merton England, who edited and transcribed the diaries, and used them as the main source for his article," A Hard Times Chronicler-An Ohio Teacher in Western Missouri-1879-1881," which was published in the Missouri Historical Review, Volume 83, Issue 2, January, 1989.
