The collection contains an account of the Battle of Wilson's Creek near Springfield, MO, 1861, and events leading up to it, as told by Joe Boxley to William E. Connelley. According to Connelley's interview, Boxley was an enslaved African American whose enslaver insisted Joe ride with him to General Price's camp and fight the Yankees.
