Tours of the Columbia Research Center are suspended until fall 2019 due to the Columbia Research Center closure and move.
The State Historical Society of Missouri welcomes a visit from your class or group. SHSMO staff members are available to provide tours and presentations on our collections and resources. We require at least one week's notice.
Tours generally consist of a brief presentation, giving an overview of the State Historical Society of Missouri, our holdings, and guidelines on doing research, followed by a discussion of samples of manuscript and reference holdings. A brief question-and-answer period follows, along with a tour of our Research Center, if time permits. If desired, Art Gallery tours may also be arranged at the Columbia Research Center with the Society Art Curator. Modifications to the tour schedules may be arranged after discussion with the Tour Coordinator.
Please use the form below to request an appointment for your tour or class presentation. We ask that you provide as much information as possible about your needs or expectations so that we can serve you better.
Please Note: Tours are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Tour times are not reserved until confirmed by a staff member.
"It was an amazing experience watching my students read and analyze propaganda posters, comic books, ballet playbills, books, and even microfiche. There is something incredible that happens to students' understanding of history when they experience it tangibly." –Gretchen Trower, Gentry Middle School teacher
